Job Description: The President & CEO is responsible for all operations of the Kansas Humane Society; provides visionary leadership to champion successful, sustainable growth and evolution of the Kansas Humane Society. Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that support the Kansas Humane Society mission.AdministrationEnsure that adequate office systems, personnel, and operational resources are in place to facilitate the productive day-to-day administration of the organization. Provide direct guidance to the Shelter Managers who are responsible for supervising shelter teams. Lead and empower staff members in the implementation of the organization's mission and provide support and opportunities for professional development. Verify compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements regarding nonprofit administration, financial documentation, and animal shelter standards.PersonnelDevelop a staffing structure that supports the efficient delivery of programs and services, accomplishment of major goals, and fulfillment of the organization's mission. Promote an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, positive communication, effective collaboration, teamwork, and a common organizational vision. Recruit, inspire, motivate, and empower a highly effective management team. Support their collective and individual growth and professional development. Demonstrate and model a positive attitude, ethical behavior, professional and personal integrity, and an appropriate work / life balance.Strategic PartnershipsIn partnership with the Board of Directors, Chief Development Officer, and Chief Financial Officer develop and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials on a local and state level, large network partners, local veterinarians, rescue groups and animal shelters.FundraisingIn partnership with the Chief Development Officer you will lead, initiate, and manage a dynamic, long-term fundraising strategy tailored to the operating, capital, and endowment needs of the organization. Actively lead and engage in fundraising activities from donor appeals to special events and participate directly in seeking support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.CommunicationsServe as the organization's goodwill ambassador, fostering broad and constructive relationships within the larger communities. In partnership with the marketing team you will build an active and positive media strategy with a multi-channeled approach to maximize the organization's online presence through website, email, and social media campaigns. Candidate will be the voice of KHS and will actively seek out public speaking opportunities to advance our mission.Fiscal ManagementWork with the Chief Financial Officer and leadership teams to formulate and recommend an annual budget for the Board's approval. Coordinate monthly financial statements of activities and submit reports balanced against yearly targets. Ensure that appropriate accounting practices, tracking mechanisms, recording protocols, and gift acknowledgment procedures are in place, monitored, and followed. Identify cost savings opportunities and manage the budget against yearly targets.Board of DirectorsAttends each Board of Directors and Executive Committee Meetings and briefs the Board of Directors on financial operations, budget compliance, and Strategic Plan. Work closely with the Board Chair to build a positive and collaborative partnership with the Board of Directors, initiate and maintain a structure for the work of the board, plan efficient and productive meetings, and engage individual board members. Work with the board and staff to develop a strategic plan that includes measureable goals and objectives. Develop an annual work plan that ensures the achievement of goals and objectives. Actively participate in the identification, solicitation, and recruitment process of new board members. Ensure the board receives timely reports on the operation of the organization, including program assessment, financial information, budget monitoring, and progress toward identified goals. Keep the board informed of innovation,new knowledge and best practices in animal welfare, board governance and the non-profit sector.

Job Requirements: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: BA, BS or MA Degree in related field or equivalent related work experience. Non-profit leadership and animal welfare management experience desirable. CAWA certification preferred. Valid driver's license.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Passion for the mission of the Kansas Humane Society. Significant and proven leadership skills developed through at least 5 years in senior management positions, experience with organizational change management preferred. Excellent organizational development, interpersonal, marketing, communication, administration, and personnel management skills. Understanding of financial management and experience in developing and implementing a budget in excess of $4 million. Tech-savvy self-starter with excellent public relations, communication and problem solving skills. Ability to collaboratively lead, motivate and manage a team of employees and volunteers. Serve as a catalyst for effective teamwork among staff.
