ASSOCIATE PATENT ATTORNEY (Engineering) 

Top Ranked International Law Firm seeks patent attorney with 2+ years of strong prosecution experience. The candidate should have a degree in Physics or an Engineering discipline or industrial experience in an engineering field.  Industry experience in a technical field and advanced technical degrees are also of particular interest.

Location: San Jose, CA or New York, NY / Remote Work Considered

Job Function:

  • Honing your practice by following legal and practical developments in IP law and clients’ industries.
  • Conferring with inventors about their inventions.
  • Counseling clients on strategies for how to protect their inventions.
  • Preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Defending our clients’ patents against third party challenges.
  • Helping our clients when third parties have misappropriated their intellectual property.

 

Job Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of patent preparation/ prosecution practice.
  • BS in Physics or an Engineering discipline or industrial experience in an engineering field.
  • Experience with computer hardware, networking infrastructure, or semiconductor fabrication preferred.
  • JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO and either the California or New York bar.
  • Exceptional English written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, a healthy imagination for problem solving.
  • Strong drive and willingness to own projects and see them to completion.
  • Practical understanding of how a patent makes a real-world difference.
  • Exposure to other legal skills like litigation and transactions ideal.
