Job Description:

Growing and diverse litigation boutique based in Oakland is looking for an ambitious superstar to join their team. Practice involves plaintiff and defense side work as well as both civil and criminal cases. Associates play a critical role in each case. Take ownership of cases and immediately receive opportunities to draft dispositive motions, coordinate with clients, take depositions, lead settlement negotiations, and deliver oral arguments.

Firm encourages employees to schedule midday workouts and have a life. Partners schedule consistent check-ins to see how associates are doing. Firm supports the pro bono and professional activities their people want to participate in and make sure they have the time and energy to actually enjoy them.

Salaries are competitive with the nation’s largest firms plus bonus eligibility. Associates generally bill within the range of 1600-1800 a year – substantially lower than Big Law Requirements – and the firm does not distinguish between pro bono and billable hours. It’s not a pressure cooker environment – associates only need to be in the office two days a week to start.

Job Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the California State Bar
  • Strong legal research, writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills
  • Clerkship experience is recommended, however, will consider other applicants with large law firm or high-quality litigation boutique experience
  • Attorney must be interested and equipped to handle pleadings, drafting and arguing motions, discovery, and depositions
  • The candidate should have interest in a variety of civil and criminal cases
